Jersey Water Polo Association’s 50th anniversary celebration tournament made waves over the weekend as the showcase event proved a splashing success.

Hosted at Havre des Pas, 16 different teams from Jersey, Guernsey, France and the UK, competed across a full weekend of water polo.

In total, a whopping six hours of matches were played on the Saturday, while just over four hours on Sunday finished off the event’s 61 matches.

Speaking to this success, former Olympian Jake Vincent said: “I have done hundreds of water polo tournaments in my career, and this is up there with the best.

The senior men’s squad comprising eight players travelled to Cherbourg to participate in several matches against teams from Les Pieux, Cherbourg and Granville.

JWPA won their semi final match against Granville with relative ease but fell short in the final against the home side, Cherbourg losing 8-4. JWPA Co-President Henry Job said “It was a fantastic event. The team should be incredibly proud of their achievements.” He also went on to say that “one or two more subs would likely have made the difference. We will be back next year to reclaim the title!”.

JWPA took three junior teams (U12, U14 & U16) and a senior ladies team to Guernsey to play six matches against Guernsey Water Polo. A brilliant performance from all with lots of learning opportunities to take forward as we approach our 50th anniversary tournament later this year. Following the matches we headed to The Chop House for a late lunch followed by a spot of "harbour cricket" before heading home.

The Channel Islands Water Polo team remain undefeated in the 2024 Hampshire League winning the title. Matches were played in Basingstoke. Results from the second weekend were as follows.

Jersey and Guernsey joined forces to enter a combined Channel Islands Water Polo team in the 2024 Hampshire League. Matches were played in Basingstoke. Results from the first weekend were as follows.

Our men's squad travelled to Guernsey in September 2023 to take part in their annual tournament at La Vallette Bathing Pools. 3 wins out of 3 means Jersey Water Polo Association ("JWPA") take the trophy this year!

Our men's squad travelled to Ter Apel (The Netherlands) in August 2023 to take part in the 53rd ZEPTA water polo tournament. Following a weekend of great polo action and some "interesting" Dutch techno music, the team enjoyed two nights in Amsterdam to end the trip.

In July 2023, JWPA took 30 juniors to Guernsey to take part in their first competitive water polo match. Despite the bumpy sea crossing, the day was enjoyed by all with our juniors winning two out of four matches. Plans are in progress for more junior fixtures both on and off Island next year.

Our men's squad travelled to Cherbourg (France) in June 2023 to take part in the Coupe De La Manche tournament. 4 wins out of 4 means JWPA take the trophy this year for the first time in the clubs history!

JWPA hosted Granville Water Polo in May 2023 at Les Quennevais Sports Centre. A strong performance from a number of players meant we took an early lead and were able to hold off the opposition to the end.
